Everyone on the side of truth listens to My voice.’ ‘What is Truth?” Pilate said; and then he went out and told the Jews, “I find no fault (guilt or basis for charge) in him (Jesus Christ)” – John 18:37-38.

The etymology or origins of the words ‘truth’ and ‘knowledge’ are noteworthy or at least interesting.  The origin of the English word TRUTH comes from a mixture of words used by Saxon and Germanic tribes that progressed for us into Old English.  Its root meaning not only stood for correctness or accuracy, but also was used in connection with ‘faith, covenant, pledge’ as well as ‘veracity.’   Harvard College, founded in 1636 by certain Christian Puritans, soon after chose the motto ‘Veritas pro Christo et Ecclesia’ – Truth for Christ and Church.  At their Bicentennial celebration they adopted the Latin ‘VERITAS’ as it motto – ‘Truth.’

The origin of the term ‘knowledge’ comes through several cultures, including Old English terms for ‘to know, perceive or distinguish;’ Scandinavian root terms for ‘honor, worship’ and ‘action, process;’ and the medieval Latin scientia – science (knowledge acquired by learning, etc.).  It is close with the Anglo-Saxon ‘witan’ or wit.  And the Latin ‘cognit’ of ‘cognoscere,’ which is ‘to get to know’- which lead to ‘cognitive’ and later ‘sense’ and ‘intellect.’  Note: Greek – gnosis (esoteric knowledge of spiritual things; to discern).

Additionally, consciousness is also know as ‘internal knowledge.’  Begs the question, when the Lord said, ‘my people perish for lack of knowledge (Hosea 4:6);’ was that in part because their ‘consciences had been seared (1 Tim. 4:2),’ and or that ‘the Light (of Truth) shined into the darkness, and the darkness comprehended it not… (John 1:5)’ perhaps for ‘many (Matt.7:13)’ ‘…because they loved darkness rather than light’ and ‘because their deeds where evil (John 3:19).’

Nevertheless, any of us reading or hearing these words have ‘the breath of life (Gen. 2:7),’ and the fact is that our days individually and as humanity are fading.  The fact or truth of the matter is that there is good and evil, there is history and science, we are not ‘a figment of our own imagination;’ for to imagine is to conceive and implies existence.  It is the search for the TRUTH of our origins, history and future that is both very difficult and very necessary.

It is true that Christ is Truth; and should be our ultimate goal and treasure of Truth; yet we have no fear in a pure and unbiased search for truth in every area of life and every subject of science or philosophy.  What happened to Harvard between the its founding and its bicentennial and more so its tricentennial and soon to be quadricentennial?

Above: shield and motto from 1836

According to their own website: “Harvard is the oldest institution of higher education in the United States, established in 1636 by vote of the Great and General Court of the Massachusetts Bay Colony. It was named after the College’s first benefactor, the young minister John Harvard of Charlestown, who upon his death in 1638 left his library and half his estate to the institution. A statue of John Harvard stands today in front of University Hall in Harvard Yard, and is perhaps the University’s best known landmark… On Sept. 8, 1836, at Harvard’s Bicentennial celebration, it was announced that President Josiah Quincy had found the first rough sketch of the College arms – a shield with the Latin motto “VERITAS” (“Verity” or “Truth”) on three books – while researching his History of Harvard University in the College Archives. During the Bicentennial, a white banner atop a large tent in the Yard publicly displayed this design for the first time.”

All nice, all truth, and all produced and manipulated by the authorities that control what parts of truth they choose to be reveal.  It is really sad that board at Harvard cares not for full disclosure to their students and the public; but rather care more for their current endowments and the current currents that move them.

Above: motto from 1692

Yet, what does a more complete search for the truth reveal?  And this is the point of TheTruthSource, not our ideas or manipulations, but the search for truth in every important field,  doctrine and question and to disclose it from its deeps to the public.  Now, in answering briefly what happen to Harvard over the centuries, Truth researchers use wisdom and understanding and approach it like any other subject of science or question and ask – what is the source or origin?  what did they think or say?  What is the history of the manner, what occurred over time?  Where there changes and why, what were the sources of those changes?  Is any data biased and why?

Now, this is the mindset we have at the TheTruthSource.  We can not love or put wife, children, denomination, church, pastor, man or woman, theory or postulate, before the Truth and where we are led by the Truth.  Facts must be reviewed and revealed; reason and wisdom must be implored; and for that matter we must also beg for understanding and counsel and strength (Isa. 11:2) in all that we do.

So to briefly provide a fuller disclosure of the Harvard question: As you can see for yourself there was a motto adopted sooner than that of just ‘Veritas.’  And as you can see from what i provided Harvard chooses to ignore and omit the earlier seal/shield’s truth in existence and suggested original philosophy.  However, if they cared; they would not have to search very hard.  It is not like they are looking for biblical codexes preceding the Sinaiticus.

Harvard’s first ‘Rules and Precepts’ state:

2. Let every Student be plainly instructed, and earnestly pressed to consider well, the maine end of his life and studies is, to know God and Jesus Christ which is eternal life (John 17:3) and therefore to lay Christ in the bottome, as the only foundation of all sound knowledge and Learning. And seeing the Lord only giveth wisedome, Let every one seriously set himself by prayer in secret to seeke it of him (Prov. 2:3).

3. Every one shall so exercise himselfe in reading the Scriptures twice a day, that he shall be ready to give such an account of his proficiency therein, both in Theoreticall observations of Language and Logick, and in practical and spiritual truths, as his Tutor shall require, according to his ability; seeing the entrance of the word giveth light, it giveth understanding to the simple (Psalm 119:130).

(following translated into modern English):

4. That they eschewing all profanation of God’s name, attributes, word, ordinance, and times of worship, do study with good conscience, carefully to retain God, and the love of his truth in their minds else let them know, that (notwithstanding their learning) God may give them up to strong delusions, and in the end to a reprobate mind, 2 Thes. 2. 11, 12. Rom. 1. 28.

5. That they studiously redeem the time; observe the general hours appointed for all the students, and the special hours for their own classes… And if in any thing they doubt, they shall inquire as of their fellows, so, (in case of non satisfaction) modestly of their tutors.

7. Every scholar shall be present in his tutor’s chamber at the seventh hour in the morning, immediately after the sound of the bell, at his opening the Scripture and prayer, so also at the fifth hour at night, and then give account of his own private reading, as aforesaid in particular the third, and constantly attend lectures in the hall at the hours appointed. But if any (without necessary impediment) shall absent himself from prayer or lectures, he shall be liable to admonition, if he offend above once a week.

8. If any scholar shall be found to transgress any of the laws of God, or the school, after twice admonition, he shall be liable, if not adultus, to correction, if adultus, his name shall be given up to the overseers of the college, that he may be admonished at the public monthly act. . .

Harvard’s history:

About 18 years after the Pilgrims landed in the New World, 6 years after the founding of Boston (1630), the academy or college was established.  But why – and why according to its founders, not ‘current flounders:’

“After God had carried us safely to New England, and we had built our houses, provided necessaries for our livelihood, reared convenient places for God’s worship, and settled the civil government; one of the next things we longed for, and looked after was to advance learning, and perpetuate it to posterity; dreading to leave an illiterate ministry to the churches, when our present ministers shall lie in the dust.”

John Harvard, was educated at Cambridge, England, and emigrated to Massachusetts in 1637, the year of the Pequot War, and the year after 400 pounds (pound sterling silver = 20 shillings per pound; 400 pounds – somewhere around $75,000 in today’s dollars) had been approved for a college.  Harvard left about 260 volumes to the college and half to his large estate.  This 1,200 pounds not only endowed the college, but inspired others to aid the institution.  Early donations varied from 1 acre to 600 acres, and from a silver spoon to many pounds.  Now it is true that many of the early Puritan faculty, even presidents, were and could be very harsh in their discipline – well beyond what was appropriate – but this is no excuse to move to Unitarian control 200 years later.  Thus, the days of Increase Mather would be yielded to John T. Kirkland (President of Harvard: 1810-1828; pastor of New South Unitarian Church) who was known to love Emerson’s Transcendentalism – likely more than the Holy Scriptures.

The Unitarians do not believe that Jesus Christ is the ‘Son of God;’ the ‘Word of God that is with God and is God.’  Thus, they see no need in the Savior of Jesus, and thus, no need of Him on the universities’ crest or motto.  It is one thing to question or argue about the mystery of the Godhead and whether the Holy Spirit/Ghost should be worshiped as a separate entity of the Godhead or is an extension of God Himself who is Spirit; it is another thing to out right deny the deity and Lordship and sole position of the Anointed One – the Son of God.

In 1805, Unitarian Henry Ware (a Harvard alumni who was known for his debates against Calvinism) – influenced by those such as James Freeman – was, after much struggle, elected president.  The Puritan and Calvinist hold over Harvard would be lost.  After Samuel Webber became president in 1807, several conservative faculty left Harvard Divinity School and founded Andover Theological Seminary.  Then after Kirkland (see paragraph above) came Josiah Quincy III, who was also a Unitarian.  He served as Harvard’s president from 1829 to 1845, and thus did not protest to the change in motto.

Today you can look for yourselves at hds.harvard.edu and find their statement: “The Harvard Gay and Lesbian Caucus is composed of more than 5,000 gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender Harvard and Radcliffe alumni/ae, faculty, staff, and students. Among its several purposes, the HGLC maintains and expands a network of GLBT alumni and sponsors…” It is somewhat ironic that one of their ‘Professor of Christian Morals,’ Prof. P.J.G…., is openly gay.  Also, until his death in 2008, Prof. K. S., a former Dean of Harvard Divinity, who became a Swedish Lutheran bishop and ecumenical leader with the World Council of Churches, openly promoted not only gay rights, but the ordination of homosexual ministers whether practicing sodomy and fornication or not.  Likewise and thus, Harvard Divinity prof. M. Jordan seeks ‘gay’ term in Bible, in his lectures and speeches he states, ‘what we need is the positive equivalent of the sodomite.”

NO NO NO my friends, regardless of your sex, gender, or beliefs, ‘what we need is Veritas’ – but Truth without bias – if the Lord says in the scriptures, sodomy is an ‘abomination;’ accept it and teach it; or go found your own religion – in the same manner certain unbelievers and Unitarians pressured certain faithful to  ‘Veritas pro Christo et Ecclesia’ – Truth for Christ and Church to leave.  And what faculty and ideas do you think Harvard is having and hiring?

As a side note: When Harvard accepted the $ 20 million gift from multi-billionaire Prince Alwaleed bin Talal bin Abdulaziz Alsaud of Saudi Arabia to ‘create a University-wide program on Islamic studies;’ i am curious – how will that effect their ‘Islamic studies’ program and Islamic relations on the campus and more so all of the leaders in a myriad of science, history, religious, and political fields which it annually sends out ‘into the utter most parts of the world?’ The  Alwaleed Philanthropies has partnered with the Gates Foundation to give away perhaps over $ 50 billion over the next decade; and that is great – sad they were not taxed properly in the first place and made billions both from the local and federal governments who buy their products and with the help of the government – but, when a great portion will be used to support their agendas and UN agendas and Bilderberg agendas – all of which they most certainly influence – what do you think the ultimate effect will be on Christianity?  Ironic – the UN does not pressure certain rich Arab nations to abolish their laws and punishments against homosexuals and Christians; but does pressure (with the IMF and World Bank loans) certain Christian African nations to abolish their laws and punishments agaisnt homosexuals.  People – don’t just except what ‘Veritas’ you are presented, but as the apostle Paul would say, ‘search the Scriptures to see if it is true… test the spirits to see if they are true.’

Lastly, in Holy Trinity vs. United States (1892), the Supreme Court declared that the history of America clearly show(ed) that the U.S. ‘is a Christian nation.’ It is not so any more; dear Christians, protest, strengthen what remains, prepare for the coming Antichrist; but don’t stick your heads in the sand and come back up with some regurgitated ‘revival is coming to America;’ NO NO NO – maybe in some churches and small pockets; yet soon, JUDGMENT is coming to America and the world.  And until that time may TRUTH be told and discovered.
