CREATION vs. EVOLUTION DEBATE Part 1
Creationism and Intelligent Design versus Evolution Theories
Individuals can view this debate as important, unimportant or pointless. Those who view it as pointless thinking that both sides oversimplify their positions, or that there is not enough evidence to known which is true, typically do not understand the importance of this issue and do not believe in the Lord God. People who view the debate as unimportant are often timid and or non-believers in the Holy Scriptures as inspired from Genesis to Revelation. Whether Christian or Non-Christian, those who view the debate as important understand the seriousness of the issue and that it affects the influences on tens and hundreds of millions of students, parents and teachers around the world. (Historical Background last section below)
MAIN OPTIONS
The universe was created through a type of Cosmic and Chemical Evolution which some call the ‘Big Bang;’ it and mankind came about through Evolution.
God created the universe and the earth about 6,000 years ago and man was created by intelligent design. Often called Young-Earth Creationism (however, that ignores the fact that God can speak things into existence as they are – any age).
God created the universe and earth millions or billions of years ago and allowed evolution; as included in some Old-Earth Creationism.
NOTE: Fact – a truth. Theory – an idea(s) that attempts to explain facts, but that is not known or proven to be true.
TYPES OF EVOLUTION
Evolution is defined as a process of slow change and development over time, in which changes occur by natural processes. There are three primarily types of evolution: Cosmic, Chemical and Biological. The traditional Theory of Evolution is the change in species over time and does not touch upon the origins of the universe or cosmic evolution that would involve the Big Bang Theory.
COSMIC EVOLUTION: ‘The vast number of developmental and generative changes that have accumulated during all them and across all space, from big bang to humankind (Cosmic Evolution: The Rise of Complexity in Nature; Chaisson, Harvard Uni. Press, 2001).’ This includes Stellar and Planetary Evolution.
BIOLOGICAL EVOLUTION: The process through which organisms change over time; genetic change over generations by means of genetic variation, mutation or natural selection. This includes Macro and Micro Evolution of Species or ‘kinds;’ as well as Organic Evolution and Human Evolution or Paleoanthropology.
CHEMICAL EVOLUTION: This term can overlap into Cosmic, Organic and Biological Evolution. It involves how new elements are formed or ‘evolve’ out of some types of chemical reactions. It is sometimes called Abiogenesis.
DEALING WITH VOLUMES OF THEORETICAL DATA
ONE MAJOR PROBLEM WITH DEFENDING THE TRUTH AND FIGHTING AGAINST PROPAGANDA AND AN ESTABLISHMENT OF ANTI-RELIGIOUS SCIENTIFIC THEORIES IS THE BOTH THE QUANTITY OF TIME AND MATERIAL NEEDED TO ANSWER THE INACCURATE THEORIES, AND THE GENERALLY ACCEPTED AND PRINTED ASSUMPTIONS WHICH FILL TEXTBOOKS AND SECTIONS IN BOOKSTORES AND LIBRARIES.
THUS, Understand TWO POINTS, The teachings on CREATIONISM which had been in the New England PREMIER and other such Educational Tools in ALL of EUROPEAN and AMERICAN EDUcATIONAL HISTORY FOR OVER HUNDREDS OF YEARS IN A MATTER OF A FEW GENERATIONS HAVE BEEN almost entirely ERASED AND REPLACED.
SECOND, an Example and a point: Samuel Tregelles, in 1845 spent about five months in Rome memorizing and translated the Codex Vaticanus in three languages (the pope allowed him to read it, but he could not remove it from the Vatican). In 1862, he visited the Russian Tischendorf to examine the Codex Sinaiticus; like the Vaticanus; a 4th century Bible; one of the oldest surviving Bibles. After returning from Russia, and troubled by illness and still in academic demand, Tregelles paused all other activities to ANSWER his fellow Plymouth Brethren John Derby’s Pretribulation Rapture Theory. The answer was in his work, The Hope of Christ’s Second Coming, published in 1864 at about 150 pages. THE POINT is that it took weeks and numerous pages to begin to answer a Theory which has grown in acceptance over the decades, and still in debated and refuted. IN THE SAME SENSE, It could take days and volumes of pages to DEBATE and refute the vast amount of THEORIES put forth concerning Cosmic, Chemical and Biological Evolution.
A BRIEF HISTORICAL BACKGROUND
Creation Science was the prevailing belief system and taught method in America and most of Europe until the 20th Century.
Johann (Giovanni) Faber coined the word ‘microscope’ speaking about Galileo Galilei’s 1625 ‘occhiolino (little eye).’
In 1676, Leeuwenhoek discovered micro-organisms under a microscope.
In 1801, Jean-Baptiste Lamarck of France coined the term ‘invertebrates;’ and 1802 he was one of the first scientists to use the term ‘biology.’
In 1809 he published Philosophie Zoologique, and from 1815-1822 to produced Seven Volumes that taught basic evolution.
In 1831, Darwin goes to the Galapagos Islands and sees many new and strange animals. In 1858, Charles Darwin and Alfred Wallace published a new evolutionary theory, explained in further detail in Darwin’s On the Origin of Species (1859). Darwin introduced his ‘THEORY’ of a branching Tree of Life.
In 1895, Wilhelm Rontgen of Germany produced and detected electromagnetic radiation using wavelengths called X-rays.
In 1905, Albert Einstein introduced the photon concept.
In Tennessee in 1925, John Scopes, a high school biology teacher went on trial (‘Monkey Trial’) for teaching a ‘theory that denies the story of the Divine Creation of man as taught in the Bible.’ The trial turned into a media circus between the statesmen, William Jennings Bryan, who died that same year at 65, and the famous intelligent Clarence Darrow (then age 68).
In 1926, the first electromagnetic lenses were invented by Hans Busch. In 1931, the first Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM) was invented by Knoll and Ruska.
April 1953, in volume 171 of the scientific journal NATURE, Crick and Watson published ‘Molecular Structure of Nucleic Acids: A Structure for D…N…A.’
In 1955, Joe Hin Tjio defined 46 as the number of chromosomes in human cells. In 1962 Crick, Watson and Wilkins shared the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine “for their discoveries concerning the molecular structure of nucleic acids and its significance for information transfer in living material.”
In 1963, the Supreme Court in Abington School v. Schempp, said that organized ‘reading of the Bible’ in school was an unconstitutional ‘religious exercise.’
In 1968, in Epperson v. Arkansas, the Supreme Court ruled that teaching evolution in public schools and state universities violates the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment.
The MYTH that man’s DNA is 98.8% like a Chimp’s was put forward in 1975 by Wilson and King in SCIENCE, Vol. 188. However, even if that was the case there would be 1.2% x 3 billion differences (36 million).
In 1982, in McLean v. Arkansas Board of Education, a federal court struck down the state’s law requiring schools to teach CREATION Science alongside Evolution.
In 1987, in Edwards v. Aguillard, the Supreme Court struck down a Louisiana law prohibiting the teaching of Evolution in public schools if Creation Science is not taught alongside it.
In 1989, NIH launched the Human Genome Research Institute. It became the Human Genome Project in 1990; and identified 90% of human’s 3 billion base pairs by 2001. In 2005, the HGP found 90% of a ‘feline,’ domestic cat’s gene was like humans.
In 2006, the South Carolina Board of Education, and in 2008, the Louisiana Science Education Act allowed teachers to tell public school students to ‘critically analyze aspects of evolutionary theory’ and give supplemental materials to ‘help students understand, analyze, critique and objectively review scientific theories.’
Up until about 2000, it was only a theory that Man’s DNA was 98.5% the same as a Chimpanzee and that man evolved from Ape. Between, 2002 and 2011 various studies showed Chimp DNA between 87% and 95% like human DNA. The difference depended on the number of base pairs studied; Tatsuya’s 2003 study examined 1.9 million base pairs to reveal the 87% and that a cat and a chimp are about equally close to human DNA; and note we are 50% like a banana’s DNA.
