A Delta is “a low-lying plain that is composed of stream-borne sediments deposited by a river at its mouth. The most important landform produced where the river enters a body of standing water (Encyclopedia Britannica).” In the 5th century BC text, History, by the Greek Herodotus, he uses the Greek letter Δ (delta) to describe the triangular or deltoid shape of the Nile River delta.

Age of the Mississippi Delta
‘The Mississippi River flows at an average surface speed of about 2 miles (3 kilometers) per hour. Yet it drains between 1.2 and 1.8 million square miles (3.1 and 4.6 million square kilometers), which is more than 40 percent of the total area of the continental United States. Some claim the Mississippi Delta is about seven (7) miles thick at the Gulf of Mexico and too thick to have been formed by a flood. Yet, in fact, the Delta is not seven miles thick, but rather the sedimentary rock under it. And the sediment extends “hundreds of miles” into the Gulf of Mexico as would be expected from a great flood.
When several geologists studied “the Northern Gulf of Mexico Basin (NGOMB) sedimentary wedge,” they found an “estimated volume of sediment (km^3)” of the “Modern Mississippi Delta Plain” to be 100,000 or about 6,000 years old. Though the article seeks to address a single great Flood and does not find enough evidence based on the single event to support a young or old earth; the scientist do not look at the event of the plates of the oceans breaking open at the same time of the flood and thus say, “there appears to be too great a volume of Pleistocene sediments offshore requiring too much energy for too short a period of time to define all of these strata as post-Flood deposits.”

The tectonic plates shifting can create massive earthquakes and volcanoes. The breaking open of the plates at that time would have been the most catastrophic event that has ever been on earth with the force of a myriad of nuclear blasts all over the Earth’s oceans floor. The Earth was a single landmass before this time (Gen. 1:9-10). The event of the Flood, not only brought the miracle of rain and carved canyons and valleys; but the breaking of the plates caused the continents themselves, along with mountains and all types of landforms.
What if the Earth was Millions or Billions of Years Old?
Evolutionists and modern textbook scientists typically teach that the Earth is billions of years old. The college text Biology: Life on Earth (Audesirk, 1993; p. 368, 372-374) says: “The First Life: The fossil record indicates that he earliest living cells arose about 3.5 billion years ago, based on radiometric dating techniques… Between the period of 600 million and 400 million years ago, both plants and animals evolved significantly, but they remained cushioned by the equanimity of the sea. Life in the ocean provides buoyant support against gravity and ready access to life-sustaining water… about 250 million years ago, mountains arose, swamps drained, and the moist climate dried up… about 400 million years ago, a group of fishes …appeared, probably in fresh water… some of their descendants use their fins to crawl…”
The college text Introductory Oceanography (Thurman, 1985; p. 32) states that “when the earth began to form its solid crust about 4.5 billion years ago, the mass of the oceans was zero, while at the present it is 1.4 x 〖10〗^24 g. We do not know what the rate was at which violates escaped the earth’s mantle via volcanic activity and hydrothermal springs throughout the 4.5 billion years…” Yet note, the text also says (inside front cover), “the Atlantic Ocean did not exist 200 million years ago. It began to form about 180 million years ago and is presently widening at a rate of about 3 cm/yr.” The text also assumes, as other such scientist, that due to ‘light years:’ ‘the time required for the galaxies to have reached their present distribution would have been about 14.5 billion years (p. 27).” And with this assume they assume the Earth’s age.
As the Apostle Peter says, “for this they willfully forget: that by the word of God the heavens were made old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water, by which the world that then existed perished, being flooded with water (2 Peter 3:5-6).” Thus, they forget that God spoke the universe into existence in a day and thus, the distance of the galaxies should be measured by the power of God’s ability, and not how long His creation ‘light’ takes to travel. That is no better measure than how long it takes for air or modules to travel across the universe. We don’t measure the Earth based on the fastest variable – light; but we perhaps should since when God created “night and one day” by the Sun it was done in one day (Gen. 1:1-4).
Nevertheless, note that the text contradict each other, in that one has life in the oceans scores of millions of years before the other says oceans existed. Moreover, one of the inventors of Carbon dating, Willard Libby, noted that it was not reliable even with stable assumptions for more than thousands of years. By Christian scientists note that catastrophic events and original atmosphere element percentages would change the findings of current Earth age guesses.
YET, if the Earth was a billion years old, River Deltas would extend significantly farther than they do. A delta that adds a foot a year would add 4.5 billion feet in 4.5 billion years. But the circumference or distance of the earth all the way around is 132 million feet. The V shaped Nile Delta covers almost 150 miles of the Mediterranean coastline and 100 miles upstream. If the Earth was even a million years old, the Delta of the River Po in Italy would have sediment that filled the width of the Adriatic; but it also is only about 100 miles.
Nature vs Supernatural Thought
It is NATURAL (ordinary) to seek solutions, make assumptions and inventions to problems and unknowns; but to use laws of NATURE (physical products of earth; seen forces in the universe) to understand the Unnatural, Extraordinary Spiritual Creator of those laws and of the nature and universe itself is ignorant and unfaithful.
We measure things by what we know – but we do not know all. We make assumptions to answer questions; but in doing so many believe untrue scientific hypothesis, projected scenarios and false theories. Facts and theories are two different things. Gravity is both a fact and a phenomenon, which is an observable significant fact or event that is known to us through our senses rather than by thought or perfect truth.
It is ironic that so many believe in miracles (extraordinary events of divine intervention) and the supernatural (paranormal, forces beyond scientific reason and or the laws of nature, spirits, ghosts, divine healing, divination, etc.), yet do not believe in the Lord God Creator of the Universe and its laws (the Omnipotent Eternal Creator is not subject to the creation, nor its temporal laws).
